Finally riding outside

(10 days before chemo)

Finally!

Been a long, almost 7 weeks since I last rode Quickie the day before surgery.  Saturday, Dan and I rode a slow & easy 100k and it felt soooooo good!  Trees were stunning.  Halloween and fall decorations still out.  So many families walking and playing in the yard.  Really couldn't have been a better day :)

Rode through Grapevine and even saw Santa!

In hopes I can do a 200k next wknd (get one before chemo starts), I pushed things a bit and did another 100k Sunday.  That one:  Lot more wind.  Headwind both ways since the wind shifted.  Not many, but a few pretty significant hills.  LOL, including the last 1/2mile uphill to the car in my granny gear :)  Lots was on the Trinity Trail, which also had the FW Marathon today!  At first, it was cool.  Cheering all the runners, but after a couple hours of dodging people, I was hoping they would all be gone when we came back... and they were... but then the neighborhoods came out, so we were constantly navigating other bikes, runners, kids, etc. and I remembered why I never want to ride the trails on a weekend!  Still, for my particular day, it was fine.

And... we also ran into some oldie bike buddies too, which was a shock and a thrill.  Vernon was volunteering at the marathon and chased us down.  Howard was at Benbrook and Betty & Jerry were on a ride from their house.  Great day, but my tank was EMPTY.  That last climb (4-5%) was at about 5mph and I was grateful there wasn't "one more" cuz my fun-o-meter ran out.

So, I still think a 200k next wknd is doable.  LSR is hosting a 400k brevet next weekend and then 2 weeks later, a 200k uses the same starting course, so I was hoping to pre-ride the 200k, ride out with the 400k brevet riders, then turn when our courses split about 50miles in.  But this is a tough, hilly course and I think I can do a few hills, but hesitant knowing what that course dishes out.  So, instead of having company the first 50 miles, I may need to find a flatter course and just do a solo permanent instead.

Time will tell in a few days!
